At a technical consultation at FAO in Rome, organised with GAIN and Rikolto, territorial markets and public procurement were considered for their purposeful interventions that benefit nutrition to vulnerable consumers and economic opportunity for family farmers and small enterprises. The WorldFMC President Richard McCarthy was pleased to have the opportunity to present how the farmers market strategy provides clarity, transparency, trust, management and governance.
This was an intense 3-days of discussions, and a moment to reconnect with old allies and make new friends: Richard with territorial advocate Florence Egal and UN Habitat’s Remy Sietchiping.
Market advocates on the FAO roof: Anna Puhac, Marcello Vicovaro, and Ann Trevenen-Jones.
Project for Public Space’s Kelly Verel, Kristie Daniel of HealthBridge, and University of Bishop’s Vivian Valencia also on the roof.
