Just the time to be back from the summer break and work immediately resumed on the project implemented in collaboration with FAO for the Development and implementation of an outreach strategy for connecting with different stakeholders and farmers markets, in the context of the initiative ‘Global Network of Farmers Markets’ .
The aim of this initiative is to develop a communication campaign to help the WorldFMC’s ability to strengthen its network, and therefore also the impact farmers markets have upon local food systems throughout the world. The initiative has two phases.
On Thursday and Friday 12-13 September 2024, the World Farmers Markets Coalition (WorldFMC) invited a group of expert practitioners representative of its six constituencies to join two 3-hour workshops to discuss and devise elements of an “outreach strategy for the WorldFMC centred on the principles of socio-economic inclusion, healthy diets as well as social, environmental, economic and institutional sustainability”.
Experts were called to determine audiences, messages and tools for the campaign, in light of their valuable and unique experiences as farmers markets practitioners and WorldFMC members.
A gathering from which important insights emerged to outlining a communication strategy, shared and in line with the expectations of the United Nations. This will be accompanied by the creation of tools that broaden the membership to the WorldFMC, in order to develop more farmers markets in more places that are inclusive instruments for consumers to gain access to fresh, healthy, and biodiverse local foods directly from farmers.
The collaboration with FAO is becoming stronger in sharing values and ideals connected to the right of peoples to have access to quality and healthy food.
