World Farmers Markets Week Launches August 6th

On August 6th, we will begin our annual World Farmers Markets Week!

Since 1999, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared the first full week of August as National Farmers Market Week. For the past 24 years, the Farmers Market Coalition (FMC), based in the USA, has promoted this dedicated week along with farmers markets all across the United States. For a second year in a row, we will join FMC in recognizing farmers markets all around the world. It’s our yearly week-long celebration (online & in-person) that showcases the important role of farmers markets in building local food systems around the world.

Following the lead of FMC, WorldFMC would like to continue spread the appreciation week for farmers markets around the world. It is a great opportunity to share our work with legislators, local leaders, consumers, producers, and communities. We think that it is imperative to acknowledge the great work of farmers markets – in supporting local food systems and economies, (re)building communities, repopulating and promoting biodiversity, and more.

This year, we will promote the same theme as FMC: “Farmers markets are changing the way.” We love this year’s theme, as it is meant to be more open-ended allowing markets to fill in the blank (and the photo) based on their context.

The toolkit (above) includes graphics, sample posts, and more details on how to participate. Don’t forget get to tag @worldfarmersmarketscoalition on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn and to use the hashtags: #FarmersMarketWeek and #LoveMyMarket.
