The World Farmers Markets Coalition is dedicated to nurturing vibrant local communities where farmers and citizens come together in inclusive, safe public spaces for direct exchange. Beneath tents and umbrellas around the world, we foster prosperity through fair and dignified trade between rural and urban families.
For this reason, we can no longer remain silent. The state of Israel’s deliberate use of food as a weapon, through blockades, land occupation, and the obstruction of farmers’ and fishers’ operations, is fundamentally opposed to our values. As such, we oppose this use of food as a weapon elsewhere on the planet.
As a global community of practitioners who see food as a force for trade, peace, and prosperity, we call on the state of Israel to end its blockade of emergency food, to cease attacks on food distribution sites, and to abandon policies and violent actions that inflict harm and trauma upon the Palestinian people.
We further reject and firmly condemn all forms of terrorism and call for the release of hostages and respect for international institutions, including the International Court of Justice and the United Nations.
