The World Farmers Markets Coalition (WorldFMC) at the G7 of farmers to underline the importance of developing local food systems to improve the entire global food system. Farmers markets can be considered as  the starting point toward a new relationship between the countryside and the city. They aim to ensure citizens access to local food and farmers receive greater economic recognition for their work. This will be possible through the development of the multifunctional activities that agricultural enterprises can offer to urban areas.

The development of local food systems not only contributes to the local economy, but also promotes sustainable agriculture that is balanced with the conservation and restoration of biodiversity, the preservation of the environment, and the preservation of life on the planet.

The points raised by the WorldFMC are:

1. Direct-to-Consumer: Promote of the development of short supply chain sales models, based on the direct relationship between producer and citizen-consumer.
2. Biodiversity: Ensure policies for the preservation and restoration of biodiversity.
3. Family Farming: To support, with investments and concrete actions, the role of family farming, a means of guaranteeing food sovereignty for all countries in the world.
4. Urban-Rural: Foster new relations between rural and urban areas that protects the countryside whilst creates more sustainable and human-friendly cities.
5. Multifunctional Agriculture: Promote the model of multifunctional agriculture, a strategy that addresses the depopulation of the countryside by creating new opportunities for entrepreneurism
