We have been contemplating what Studio topic would be most poignant and relevant in February. We look around and see so much happening – there is always so much happening all the time, but it seems like the gravity of adverse events has gotten more heavier and deeply seated, and frequency greater. There are environmental disasters, like wildfires, cold waves, and heatwaves. Wars and armed conflicts around the world continue and some got worse, requiring international attention. Yet, political disarray is also getting darker and more serious. Refugees, human rights violation and suffering, poverty and hunger emergencies are mounting, while diseases and epidemics are also on the verge of becoming worse. Food security is a serious national security issue.

So instead of selecting a specific farmers market management topic this month, we want to gather the members and friends of WorldFMC in solidarity. We believe in our collective wisdom and historical resilience. We also believe that farmers markets and your work are very relevant in all of the world affairs. We have seen, time and time again, how we have risen to the occasion and led efforts to move our community forward. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of our capacity to hope.

We will come together as a community of practice, to acknowledge and appreciate the current – individual, collective and global – critical times, acknowledge that we are #bettertogether, agree to co-create tranquility in this turbulent sea, discuss farmers markets’ role in this time and for our community, and create intention to practice hope and re-imagine possibilities and opportunities.
